About Polly Paintbrush...
Polly Paintbrush a.k.a. Polly Holabird, was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Polly's
been drawing horses ever since she can remember, hoping that if she stuck to it long
enough she'd get good at it! And by golly... she has!
Polly and her sisters rode Saddlebreds at Parkway Stables right in the city. On weekends
Polly and her best friend would ride at Delaine Farm out in Morton Grove (it was her
best friend's "Uncle Poppy's" stable).
During College she spent her summers in various exciting ways. She spent a summer
in Italy at the Piazza Savanarola studying art and painting. She also spent a summer
working on a dude ranch in Montana, and Polly and her family spent a summer in Mexico
riding with Mexican Cavalry Officers and attending art classes at the Instituto Allende
in San Miquel.
In 1964 Polly and her family spent a summer in Aspen, riding horses
there as well. Most of Polly's summers as a young girl, however, were spent in Pentwater,
Michigan galloping horses along the beaches and through the orchards with her sisters.
Polly graduated from Syracuse University School of Art in 1971 and Hallmark Cards hired
her upon graduation.
Polly moved to Kansas City, Mo. with her first Saddlebred "Piper".
There she met ol' Buck Hinson and rode Saddlebreds out at Cedar Creek in Lee's Summit.
The lure of the West (and Polly's best friend) convinced Polly to move to Telluride Colorado,
where in 1973 she opened "Riding High Stable-The Un-Stable" and was part of
the Artists Co-Op there.
Eventually Polly moved to Denver and worked on The Capital Horseman
Newspaper as Art Director, and then to the Arabian Horse Journal in Grand Junction.
It was in 1976 that Polly bought "Majestic Mountain Stonewall", a
beautiful 2 year old Saddlebred gelding.
Polly trained and showed "Magic" herself and in 1980 they won the
National Western Pleasure Grand Championship and went on to win both the International
Western Pleasure Grand Championship, and the Sidesaddle Championship as well. They
were undefeatable that year! What a team.
In 1981 Polly moved to Massachusetts with Magic but it wasn't until 1989 that "Polly
Produx" began whole-heartedly setting up at Horseshows selling her art, Old saws, rocks,
tabletops, trunks, and you name it. Polly painted anything at all (she still does).
In 1990 Polly began having T shirts printed and the rest is history!!! In 1994 she became
partners with APT becoming "APT POLLY PRODUX Inc." but after 5 years the
partnership ended and Polly went back out on her own as "POLLY PAINTBRUSH"
a name she used in Colorado.
Polly runs her company alone...almost. She has a miniature poodle Mizz Daizy, and a
Saddlebred gelding "Banner" (Magic was put to sleep at 23 )and some fish and canaries
and a guy called Herb. They all live on a small farm way out in the woodsy mountains
of Massachusetts.
Polly specializes in handpainted jean jackets, but it is her unique original and witty line
of printed designs on clothing that Polly sells wholesale and retail. Travelling to major
horse shows and fairs throughout the USA and setting up her display, Polly loves being
around the horse show world that she knows so well... "been there done that".
Polly loves what she does and it shows.. she believes that laughter is the best medicine
A simple quick line drawing of a horse is something she can do blindfolded by now! Polly
makes it look easy.
Many of Pollys designs have been used as Horse show logos and as illustrations in books
and magazine articles. Polly is branching out into Posters now too. Stay tuned, there's
more to come!
